Nexon’s Q3 2021 financials tease ‘virtual worlds’ from Embark Studios

Nexon Corporation, a Korean video game developer and publisher, has released its Q3 2021 guidance for revenue. The company mentions virtual worlds as one of the main drivers of growth in this quarter. Nexon wants to build a new generation platform focused on “virtual worlds” from Embark Studios – their upcoming mobile title with blockchain technology designed by Nexon VP Wei-Ning Huang – that will be available globally via iOS and Android devices

Nexon’s Q3 financial report gives some details about the company’s first foray into creating its own games with Embark Studios, a team that has developed for and published titles on Facebook.

Nexon published their Q3 2021 financials this week, which were down 4% year over year, owing to the fact that Q3 2020 was such a profitable quarter for the firm. PC was the driving force behind the strong quarter, with net profits at least above Nexon’s expectations, thanks to the continued success of MapleStory and Dungeon & Fighter in Korea. Early next year, D&F will have a mobile edition.

The remark from Nexon’s Patrick Söderlund-backed Embark Studios, which is now promising various virtual worlds and a platform, is perhaps the most intriguing part of the presser.

“Three projects have been announced by Nexon’s Embark Studios in Stockholm, Sweden: two new Virtual Worlds and a ground-breaking creative platform. In 2022, the first Virtual World, designated Pioneer, will be released. All three initiatives are powered by Embark’s proprietary technology, which includes procedural tools and machine learning for content production that is unlike anything else on the market.”

According to the presentations, the other’s codename is Discovery, but we won’t learn much more about it until next year. About least one of them will most likely be the team-based shooter that Embark hinted at earlier.

At the moment, Embark Studios is working on three projects.

Pioneer is a codename for a kind of vehicle. Discovery Creative Platform is the codename for this project.

By the end of the year, Pioneer will have additional information. In 2022, the discovery will be made public. The Creative Platform is a platform that focuses on creativity while also providing extra features. https://t.co/KdY7b6P5GD
