I’m happy to report that the developers of NEO (pronounced “New”) 2045—a space-faring MMORPG that the developers describe as the “Star Wars of gaming”—have announced that the game will be launching on September 23rd. Developed by the indie game studio ION Storm, the game is set in a future, neo-scifi environment where players can explore a massive open-world, in a full flight-simulator cockpit, complete with a hand-crafted 3D-engine that allows players to fly in a variety of different ships.
When most people think of MMOs they think of massive worlds, complex conversations with friends, progression, and most importantly—combat. However, many games are missing key elements that are key to the success of an MMO. NEO 2045 is an upcoming MMO that takes a different approach to MMOs. The game features a highly authentic, kid-centric sci-fi world, which is the main focus of the game.
We previously reported NEO 2045, a new Australian MMORPG with Roblox-like trappings that had entered open beta on Steam and mobile in June. We noted at the time that the studio, VR Realms, appeared to be owned by mobile publisher Bubble Gum Interactive; that the game received mixed reviews, owing to the fact that it was already marked as a launch product despite being in global open beta; and that online safety information for parents was oddly vague, unsatisfactory, and difficult to find.
Well, it’s still listed as a launched game on all of those platforms in early September, despite the fact that a press release sent out this week claims it won’t leave beta until September 23rd; reviews on Steam are “mixed,” while Google Play reviews are 3.4 stars; and the safety situation hasn’t changed, as the “parent portal” is locked behind registration and the chat/moderation section in the support page is still locked behind registration. But, hey, it’s still on the way.
“NEO 2045 is a sci-fi action MMO for all ages with a massive open world, a plethora of single and multiplayer mini-games accessible through various arenas and locations, and a series of Social Realms and Player Realms where players can terraform mountains and valleys and construct structures and vehicles using dynamorphic components that connect seamlessly. The new Game Maker, which is now available for download, is a drag-and-drop game editor that allows youngsters to co-create a variety of games, ranging from racing to puzzle games, action games to adventure platformers. The Game Maker also provides for scalability, allowing users to build games ranging in size from a few bytes to huge multiplayer experiences. Pet Battles, where players may pit their beautiful pets against each other in card combat games where they can collect cards, build decks, and choose their own Clash Cards for battle, selecting between their pet’s most amazing attack, defensive, or buff abilities, will also be available at launch.”
