How to Defeat Your Enemies From Land, Sea, and Air
“Victorious armies win first and then go to war,” Sun Tzu famously said, “while defeated forces go to battle first and then strive to win.” Sun Tzu was correct, as anybody who has played Humankind and found themselves fighting another civilisation without fully comprehending the game’s combat mechanism knows.
So, how do fighting and war in Humanity work? This article aims to explain why, as well as offer you an advantage when you or another civilisation attempt to conquer the globe.
Outsmart Your Opponent
The first and most essential lesson in confrontation is to have the finest troops possible. The ancient saying in video games goes something like this: “large number powerful, tiny number weak.”
First and foremost, make sure you stay up with the AI in terms of unlocking new military units in each era by finding new technologies. Close-quarters infantry, in particular, should be given special attention, since it is the backbone of your army. During the Medieval Age, siege weapons were used to rapidly conquer walled towns.
Also, don’t overlook city fortification specialists. Fortifications, Feudalism, Centralized Power, Nationhood, and ultimately Insurrection Theory, when coupled with the construction of stone walls, may render your towns almost impenetrable against all but the most determined AI attacks.

Fundamentals of Field Combat

Siege fights are similar to normal field battles, with the following exceptions:

The Battle from the Sky
You may launch an Air Strike on enemy cities and outposts once you have air units. You (or the adversary) may, on the other hand, set up an Air Patrol with fighter jets to intercept incoming aircraft and shoot them down before they can do damage.
Airstrikes have the advantage of significantly damaging the enemy’s economy by attacking districts and disrupting resource production. The downside is that since the city would be in poor economic condition, it will be more difficult to take over and absorb it.
