The recent announcement of ArcheAge’s transfer from Gamigo to Kakao is a sign that the Korean gaming market is heating up. But what does this move mean for players and investors? Let’s take a look at how things will be different with this shift.
The “byron buxton injury” is a popular topic that has been discussed across the internet. The “Here’s how ArcheAge transfers from Gamigo to Kakao will work – expect land rushes” article talks about the transfer of ArcheAge from Gamigo to Kakao.
We reported last week on the unexpected news that XL Games was transferring the western publication rights for ArcheAge from Gamigo to Kakao. Gamigo’s statement confessed that it left “a lot of unresolved questions,” while Kakao’s announcement did nothing more than explain that ArcheAge Unchained would undergo a facelift, while Classic ArcheAge will see parity between Korean and Western versions.
Gamigo has responded with a new essay on the hand-off. To begin, the procedure starts on December 1st, when Kakao assumes control of the game. “We’ve put in many hours to guarantee secure data transmission and discover a means for you to keep playing,” Gamigo adds. “To make the move possible, we had multiple meetings with the Kakao Games crew. This ensures that your progress is preserved. Your data (including all of your characters) will be encrypted and moved to the new platform until November 18, 2021. As a result, all following stored data will not be sent until the full deployment at Kakao Games.”
In other words, between November 18th and December 1st, nothing will be preserved, therefore this is your final week to perform anything useful on Gamigo’s servers; compensation for the effective downtime is anticipated. Because of the GDPR, you’ll need to utilize the transfer code and agree to finalize your data with Kakao ahead of time, so make sure you do it, otherwise your ArcheAge account will be canceled at the end of it all. (According to the FAQ, you’ll have around a half-year to do this.)
“You may play with your Glyph account until December 1, 2021, but your progress will not be stored after the November 18 update.” The service will be taken over by Kakao Games on December 1, however the precise date will be disclosed on their transfer website. On November 18, a link to the transfer page will be included in a forthcoming news post. Once the service is available, you must download and play the game through Kakao Games’ official website. Please keep in mind that you cannot request the data from numerous Glyph accounts to be transferred to a single Kakao Games account. You’ll need a separate destination account for each account you want to transfer. Our gaming data will be completely removed after everything is over.”
There are no clear answers in the FAQ on refunds, patron time, or credits. Importantly, although your characters and accounts will be transferred, it seems that the servers will not, which means you will lose your land and maybe your character names as well. Yes, come December, this will be the mother of all land rushes.
“At the start, all players will have no land. A land rush will occur, but the exact day and time have yet to be defined. […] Furniture in your house, including things in chests, will be returned to you as part of the usual demolition procedure. Plants and livestock, on the other hand, will not be recovered. […] As a whole kit, only completely finished dwellings are returned. The design of unbuilt homes will be returned, but not the materials.”
It’s a lot to take in, so whether you’re an experienced ArcheAge player or just starting off, you should get right in.
