When Shohei Ohtani was awarded the AL MVP award, his Sportsbook took a $1 million hit. Did they know he would be so effective?
Shohei Ohtani’s AL MVP Award Shockingly Cost a Sportsbook $1,000,000 in Historic Loss. The Angels phenom was named the American League MVP on Monday night, but it cost one sportsbook $1 million in historic losses.
Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies and Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels are your MLB MVP Award winners for 2021.
After one of the finest seasons in MLB history, Ohtani swept the poll in a unanimous decision. He hit home runs, hit for average, struck out hitters, and threw a spin on the mound that we hadn’t seen in a long time.
Was there any other candidate for the American League Player of the Year award except Ohtani? It seems that this is not the case. However, not everyone is overjoyed that Ohtani won the honor, as one American bookmaker has lost a record-breaking $1,000,000 bet.
After a remarkable season with the Angels, Shohei Ohtani was overwhelmingly chosen as the American League MVP.
That statistic encapsulates everything. In 130 innings on the mound, Ohtani managed to hit 46 home runs, drive in 100 runs, and strike out 156 opponents.
He was selected to start the American League’s All-Star Game and took part in the Home Run Derby. Seriously, who would do such a thing?
Nobody is the solution. Ohtani is a technological miracle that we may never see again. Players have attempted to bat and pitch, but none have come close to Ohtani’s success. On the mound, he’s electrifying, and with the bat in his hand, he’s even more so.
1st inning, April 4, 2021:
Shohei Ohtani’s pitches at the top of the inning reach 100.0 mph.
Then, in the bottom of the inning, he smashes a 451-foot, 115.2-mph HR.

In 23 appearances on the mound, Ohtani had a 9-2 record and a 3.18 ERA. He was second in the MLB in home runs, behind only Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Salvador Perez, all of whom hit 48. In terms of RBI and slugging percentage, the Angels’ star finished in the top 20.
Is it necessary to continue? Ohtani has recently completed an incredible season.
One American bookmaker lost nearly $1,000,000 as a result of Ohtani’s MVP choice.
This gambler recently won a lot of money betting on Ohtani’s MVP triumph. A $30,000 wager yielded $900,000, and this is just one bettor.
Overall, the Caesars Sportsbook has lost more than $1 million since the Angels player won the prize (h/t ESPN’s David Purdum).
“On an awards market that generally doesn’t draw a lot of money, Ohtani was proclaimed the unanimous winner Thursday, and Caesars suffered an overall seven-figure loss.”
After Shohei Ohtani won the award, the team suffered an overall defeat.
For a long time, it will sting the sportsbook. Given how brilliant Ohtani is, bookmakers hurried to grab a piece of the action when his MVP odds first came out. The bet launched at 60-1 odds in February, which is an unbelievable bargain for a player of his caliber.
But, in the end, it paid off, with Ohtani having one of the best — if not the best — statistical seasons in MLB history.
Not only for Ohtani, but for all of Japan.
Since his teammate Mike Trout, he is the first unanimous American League MVP winner.

Ohtani snatched this prize from his grasp. Keep in mind that Guerrero hit 48 home runs and 111 RBIs while hitting.311 with a.311 average. The Blue Jays’ standout appeared in all but one game this season, and he would have won the award in any other year.
But, for the first time since Mike Trout in 2014, Ohtani was named the American League MVP by a unanimous vote.
The Angels’ postseason skid continues despite having Trout and Ohtani on the same club. Los Angeles wasted no time in inking pitcher Noah Syndergaard to a hefty $21 million contract in the hopes of reviving his career, and they aren’t done yet.
Ohtani is just 27 years old and won’t be 28 until July, so the Angels must make the most of his peak while surrounded by quality. Finding a means to get Trout back into the playoffs is also critical. Two of the finest players in the game, and not only in the league right now — these are Hall of Famers, true superstars who are simply trying to win the World Series.
Regardless of whether you’re a fan of the Angels or not, take advantage of brilliance while you can. This is something we’ve never seen in the MLB before — at least not in this age — and who knows when it’ll happen again.
Shohei Ohtani was named American League MVP, as predicted.

The “al mvp odds” is a sportsbook that was recently the victim of an historic loss. The book lost $1,000,000 when they bet on Shohei Ohtani to win the AL MVP award.
