The best way to change your life is by changing your perspective. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the constant stream of information that bombard us on a daily basis, but there are ways to filter out what’s important and focus on the essentials.
On September 24, there will be a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Specs by Kyla, situated at 5808 Traffic Way in the El Paseo Plaza in downtown Atascadero, is a new optical store. On Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening.
Kyla Skinner, the owner of Specs, recognized a need in North County for distinctive eyewear with a focus on customer care. So, in May of this year, Kyla began renovating the El Paseo facility. She and her contractor husband performed the majority of the work themselves on weekends and nights. To match the copious natural light already existing in the room, they restored the concrete flooring, painted, and installed a bespoke light fixture. The contemporary eyewear collection is highlighted by the high ceilings and industrial concrete flooring.
Only independent eyewear brands with an emphasis on quality and distinctive designs that you won’t find anywhere else are carried at Specs by Kyla. Kyla’s aim is to help you see better while also enhancing your characteristics and making your eyeglasses a fashionable accessory.
We’re going to get through this together, Atascadero
The frame will fit comfortably and enable you to see clearly thanks to personalized attention to detail. Kyla also has a large selection of independent eyeglass frames and sunglasses. Kyla collaborates with HOYA Lab to create digitally surfaced lenses that enable you to see clearly and have a broad field of view.
Kyla was born and raised in Templeton, and after graduating from high school, she started working in the optical industry. She received her optician certification from the American Board of Opticianry in 1999 after studying and learning on the job for a few years.
Kyla then relocated to North Carolina in 2007 and stayed for three years, during which time she assisted an optometrist in opening a new office and learnt about running a company. Her family then chose to return to California in 2010, since they missed the Central Coast and their relatives.
Kyla returned to San Luis Obispo and worked for more than 10 years in an optometrist’s office. Then she started to consider starting her own company in North County. After she got the sad news that her birth mother had died in December of 2019 and that her biological family had left her an inheritance, that notion became a genuine possibility.
To commemorate her biological mother and the chance she was given, Kyla decided to launch the company on July 5, which also happens to be her birthday.
Kyla said, “The day I was born was the one day I know we had together.” On September 24, the grand opening of Specs by Kyla will coincide with the Chamber of Commerce’s Art, Wine, and Brew event in Atascadero.
The ribbon cutting for Specs by Kyla will take place at 5:30 p.m., and the celebration will go until 8 p.m. Personalized eyewear style will be offered, with COVID precautions taken into account. Forager Central Coast Distillery will offer wine and snacks in the courtyard. Atascaderochamber.org has tickets available.
